The Turnbull Government’s $30 million grant to Fox Sports has been exposed for exactly what it is – a dodgy deal with a billionaire buddy.
Communications Minister Mitch Fifield today attempted to dodge my questions about what conditions, if any, apply to this hand-out.
When asked to justify spending $30 million of taxpayers’ money on a service taxpayers will have to pay to access, the Minister could have at least tried to explain how his deal might support women’s sport coverage.
Instead he wasted the Senate’s time with bad jokes and Fox Sports promotions.
Women’s sport is not a joke, Minister.
At the last election Labor pledged $21 million to the ABC, to in increase live coverage of women’s sport on both television and digital platforms by approximately 500 hours over four years.
Malcolm Turnbull’s out-of-touch, elitist government still cannot provide details of its breaks for billionaires deal with Fox Sports, months after it was announced.
Labor will continue its commitment to promoting, developing and supporting women in sport – from the grassroots to the pinnacle of national and international competition.
