Labor wishes the best of luck to the 43 serving and ex-service men and women representing Australia at this year’ Invictus Games in Toronto.
The Australian Invictus Games Team, supported by our Australian Defence Force (ADF) and National RSL, will come up against fierce competition and determination from service personnel athletes from across the globe.
This year, athletes will be competing in a range of adaptive sports including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair tennis, archery, athletics, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling, sitting volleyball, swimming and, new to the 2017 games, golf.
Invictus Games is an initiative of Prince Harry, which uses the power of sport as a catalyst to motivate recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding of and respect for our wounded, injured and sick serving and ex-service personnel.
This high-level sporting event will host some of the world’s elite athletes at the same time highlighting some of the difficulties and sacrifices made by men and women who have served their country.
Australia will host the 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney from October 20-27 next year.
Good luck to all the men and women who are representing Australia in Toronto 2017 over the next week, we are already so proud of you.
